I have two major thoughts about the debate party I just hosted tonight. The first thought is more about the party itself. It was extremely easy to host the party, and it went very well. Eleven people showed up and everyone had a great time. We had plenty to eat and drink, and the conversation flowed very well. There was a good connection between everyone.

Only one out of four strangers showed up, and even though he was a member of a different generation he meshed very well with the group.

The second thought is that George W. Bush seemed like he didn't even prepare for the debate. His strength is his ability to stay on message. However, the message he stuck to throughout the debate had no connection to reality. He kept repeating his talking points, but the talking points sounded forced and phony.

John Kerry sounded very presidential. When I first realized that Kerry was going to win the nomination, I had no passion for him. Bit by bit, I've been more and more impressed by Kerry. After tonight, I feel a real passion for Kerry, not as a candidate, but as a future president. Kerry has a firm grasp of the most important foreign policy issues facing the world, and he has the wisdom and strength to make positive impacts on those issues.

Most of my guests asked me if I'm going to host a party for the next three debates. After the dual successes of the party and my candidate's performance, I'm leaning towards hosting those parties.
Tonight is the night that I'm hosting a debate watching party for John Kerry. I've got 24 beers, 3 bags of chips, and we'll probably be ordering 4 or 5 pizzas.

I'm expecting 10-15 people, most of them friends from work.

The fate of world history could be resting on who "wins" this debate. I'm pretty excited to see it. Will Kerry's invocations of reality and facts defeat Bush's fantasy world and optimism?

I hope so.

I hope I can make a difference in this election. I'm hosting a debate party, I sent out an email inviting some work friends to volunteer for Kerry, and I'll hopefully be traveling into Pennsylvania in the last weekend of October for whatever the Kerry campaign needs me to do.

Wow! I must say I'm very impressed with Kerry's volunteer center. They have a set of three goals prominently displayed (get 10 new volunteers, donors, media contacts). They have a ranking for fundraising, and a simple format for keeping track of campaign events.

It's almost worth signing up just to see the page.

I'll post more when I've played with the features. I'm definitely volunteering for duty in Pennsylvania, and I'm probably going to host a debate party.

I just filled out the form for becoming a volunteer for John Kerry.

We need a president who believes in forming policy on the basis of evidence and expert advice. In my innocence, I never believed that this would be a consideration for me. Now I know better.

When I get the confirmation email from Kerry's website I'll post more.

I'm going to have to change my plans for now. My house is on fire and I've been watering the plants. Sure, that bit of watering may help dampen the fire, but it would be much more effective if I joined with the firefighters in saving the house.

The Bush Administration's incompetence is damaging my country. It is my civic duty to help defeat them.

Yes, good point.
