My life has not gone according to plan.
Life isn't really predictable. I thought I knew what I wanted, and I was right. Now I still know what I want, it's just not the same anymore. Through it all I have learned to be satisfied.
There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good. This also I have seen that it is from the hand of God.

Glenn Greenwald has an excellent post up that very accurately describes my opinions on the Bush theory of the unitary executive.
The first instance of government lawbreaking that really woke me up to the radical nature of the Bush administration was the torture regime. While torture is the most extreme and objectionable aspect of the administration, it's only one part of a larger theme.
The Bush administration claims that it can operate beyond the bounds of the law. They make all kinds of limp arguments about how what they're doing isn't really lawbreaking, but the arguments all sound like the protests of a 5 year old trying to justify bad behavior.
They've continually acted in this lawless manner, and I had hoped that a Democratic congress would call them to account. However, nothing has changed.
Kudos to Glenn for expressing this to a large audience, and with an eloquence that I could never attain.

Awhile back I pondered if it meant anything significant that the Democrats won the 2006 election. There's more evidence that it didn't mean anything significant as far as Congress' behavior. The Democratic leadership has been complicit in the continued corruption of our country.

Is the United States a rogue nation?
Here's one take on the matter, a take I find incredibly convincing... and outrageous.

Lots of RL stuff, so I have posted (not that anyone reads me).
However, I'd like to emphasize No Torture. No Exceptions.

When someone has a large part of their genitals removed, their genitals become less sensitive.
It's so obvious. It's common sense. Now there's a research study to prove it.

I don't have much to say about the elections. It's true that Americans decisively repudiated the Republicans, and that reflects well on us as a nation.
I think it remains to be seen just -why- we voted the way we did, and what impact the new Democratic majority in Congress will do. I want an end to torture, an end to fiscal recklessness, and an end to idiotic foreign policy at the least.
At least I now have hope. Ahhhh, sweet hope.

The modern conservative movement is rotten to its core. From corrupt lobbyists and congressmen to evil torture enablers in the administration, the leadership of this movement is a cesspool of immorality.
Read and weep about their contempt for decency.

I'm so disgusted with Republicans that I sometimes can't even contain it. I used to lean towards Republicans (I used to be a big fan of Rush). The current bunch is so bad that I'm now a registered Democrat. Here's a good explanation of why I made the change two years ago. I just wish more people would have become convinced of the immorality of the Republican leadership before we re-elected Bush.
